Green Dot changing collection system to encourage recycling

Green Dot in Cyprus, a waste recovery and recycling company established in Cyprus in 2003, has developed a more convenient household recyclable waste collection programme, it said.

Paper stream - cardboard boxes, cartons, newspapers, magazines, leaflets, office paper - and PMD stream - plastic, metal, Tetra Pak cartons - up to this point were collected separately and on different days.

Green Dot said this wasn’t always efficient or easy for households, nor for the recovery company. So it has decided to simplify the procedure and collect paper and PMD waste on the same day once a week.

Materials will still be sorted by householders as usual. To enhance the programme GDC also produced a special brown transparent bag for paper stream collection. The bag will be available in supermarkets in the coming days.

The household waste packages will temporarily be picked up by two different trucks that will pass on the same day.

Glass stream will be collected as always from the bell-shaped green bins placed at accessible points chosen by local authorities.

Green Dot hopes that this specific programme, which will simplify and facilitate recycling, will increase the public’s participation in recycling.
